Reflective Haptics: Resistive Force Feedback for Musical Performances with Stylus-Controlled Instruments

چکیده
In this paper we present a novel system for tactile actuation in stylus-based musical interactions. The proposed controller aims to support rhythmical musical performance. The system builds on resistive force feedback, which is achieved through a brakeaugmented ball pen stylus on a sticky touch-sensitive surface. Along the device itself, we present musical interaction principles that are enabled through the aforementioned tactile response. Further variations of the device and perspectives of the friction-based feedback are outlined.

Reflective Haptics: Enhancing Stylus-Based Interactions on Touch Screens
In this paper, we introduce the prototype of a low cost haptically augmented stylus for pen computing on touch screens. The stylus supports human-computer interaction through a dynamic haptic feedback. This reflective feedback is generated by a magnetically operated brake system. The feedback actuator is integrated in the stylus. Therefore, the pen supports the use of multiple styli on a single...
متن کاملIntroduction to Haptics
Haptics refers to the modality of touch and associated sensory feedback. Researchers working in the area are concerned with the development , testing, and refinement of tactile and force feedback devices and supporting software that permit users to sense (" feel ") and manipulate three-dimensional virtual objects with respect to such features as shape, weight, surface textures, and temperature....
متن کاملTeleoperation with Sensor/Actuator Asymmetry: Task Performance with Partial Force Feedback
For practical application of force feedback in robotassisted surgical systems, it may not be possible to match the number of degrees of freedom of position sensing and control with the degrees of freedom of force sensing and feedback. The goal of this experimental study is to determine the effect of such sensor/actuator asymmetry during bilateral telemanipulation. We examined the performance of...
متن کاملAn Integrated Approach to Computer-based Musical Instrument Design
In recent years a large number of new computer-based musical instruments have been created. While a number of these have implemented a degree of non-audio feedback as a performance aid (which generally takes the form of either haptics or visuals), the majority have tended to focus specifically (and perhaps understandably) on the audio output, and have neglected other forms of feedback. This pap...
متن کاملPhysical modelling concepts for a collection of multisensory virtual musical instruments
This paper discusses how haptic devices and physical modelling can be employed to design and simulate multisensory virtual musical instruments, providing the musician with joint audio, visual and haptic feedback. After briefly reviewing some of the main use-cases of haptics in Computer Music, we present GENESIS-RT, a software and hardware platform dedicated to the design and real-time haptic pl...
